Description
Idube Game Reserve spans approximately 10,000 hectares of wildlife area. Knowledgeable rangers and skilled Shangaan trackers lead early morning and late afternoon game drives, offering guests up-close encounters with the Big Five. Walking safaris offer a more intimate experience, allowing guests to track game and explore the diverse bird, insect, and plant life of the reserve. Idube also offers additional activities such as wildlife talks, a tracker’s course, visits to the Shangana Cultural Village, and traditional dance performances. The success of leopard sightings in this area is legendary, and guests frequently spot cheetah, hippo, wild dog, and a large variety of antelope during their stay. There are regular sightings of rare species like the roan antelope, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, and wild dog. Evening game drives reveal nocturnal creatures such as porcupines, aardwolves, genets, servals, white-tailed mongooses, bush babies, civets, and brown hyenas. Birdlife in the reserve is prolific, with over 300 species recorded. Raptor sightings include Martial, Tawny, and Fish Eagles as well as Steppe Buzzards and Spotted Eagle Owls. Southern Ground Hornbills nest close to the lodge, and iridescently plumaged birds like the Lilac-breasted Roller, Southern Carmine Bee-eaters, and Malachite Kingfishers are often seen.
